Title 1 "Parent's Right to Know"

Title I Parents Right to Know

Medicine Lodge Grade School is a Title I school, and as such must meet federal rules related to teacher qualifications as defined in No Child Left Behind. These rules allow you to learn more about your child’s teacher’s training and credentials. We are happy to provide this information to you.

At any time, you may ask:

• Whether the teacher met state qualifications and certification requirements for the grade level and subject he/she is teaching,

• Whether the teacher received an emergency or conditional certificate through which state qualifications were waived, and

• What undergraduate or graduate degrees the teacher holds, including graduate certificates and additional degrees, and major(s) or area(s) of concentration.

You may also ask whether your child receives help from a paraprofessional. If your child receives this assistance, we can provide you with information about the paraprofessional’s qualifications. Our staff is committed to helping your child develop the academic knowledge and critical thinking he/she needs to succeed in school and beyond. That commitment includes making sure that all of our teachers, aides, and paraprofessionals are highly skilled.

If you have any questions about your child’s assignment to a teacher or paraprofessional, please contact Mr. Cunningham, MLGS Principal at (620) 886-5608

USD 254 Title I schools have parental involvement policies to provide a framework for programs and activities to strengthen the connection between the school and our students’ families. If you are interested in these policies, they are available in the school office. They can also be mailed to you or sent via e-mail by request. If you are looking for resources to use at home or information about parent involvement in Kansas schools you can find more information at www.kpirc.org. This is the Kansas Parent Information Resource Center’s website and you will find many resources for helping your child have success in school.
